Law of God #28

In the third month after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on the same day, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai.
...Israel camped there before the mountain.
And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:
’You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.
’Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.
’And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

Father, You tell us many times that Israel was chosen by You to be Your special people, that You would bless them and never forsake them. You also said that Your blessings required obedience and You gave them Your law. We know that Israel has been disobedient many times and we know Your mercy has prevailed.

We are personally grateful for Your mercy to us this day. We too have been disobedient even though the Law is written upon our hearts. Help us resolve to sin no more, to look to Your perfect Law and to the enabling power of the Holy Spirit in us. Thank You for not simply judging us for our sin, but instead, cleansing us by the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus.

Help us to be obedient to Your perfect, unamendable Law, this day. In Jesus’ name, amen
