Prayer, Part I, March 13, 2008

...innumerable evils have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of my head; therefore my heart fails me.
Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me; O LORD, make haste to help me!
Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion who seek to destroy my life; let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor who wish me evil.
Let them be confounded because of their shame, who say to me, "Aha, aha!"
Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; let such as love Your salvation say continually, "The LORD be magnified!"
But I am poor and needy; yet the LORD thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God.

Father, King David was indeed surrounded by innumerable evils when he wrote this Psalm. People wanted him dead and he was very troubled. We seldom feel this kind of pressure but we see it at times in the lives of other persons, some of them we know and many we do not.

We do pray for people who are persecuted and Your word indicates that we too, when the tribulation begins, will suffer in ways we could not imagine. Father, help us to bring all concerns of every kind to You, as David did. He asked for Your protection and guidance. Can we do less?

In the midst of his trials, he did what we are to do as well. He cried out to You, and he acknowledged You as his deliverer. Father, our trials are whatever they are, but regardless of the severity, we feel helpless except for Your hand upon us.

We pray diligently for the souls of those who are experiencing pain. May they lay their concerns upon You and rest assured of Your love, Your eternal love.

In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.
