Prayer, Part I, Febrary 26

Prayer, Part I, Febrary 26

"And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
"But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
"And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
"Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

Matthew 6:5-8, www.solascriptura.com

Jesus, we thank You for these specific teachings. We read Your word because it is a lamp unto our feet. You guide us in paths of righteousness. Here You make it clear that prayer is not a performance, to be seen by others, nor a vain repetition of words that are repeated over and over.

Teach us Jesus to be comfortable talking with You all day, privately and in public (Paul tells us to pray unceasingly about every circumstance and to be grateful for every gift, and to see You in all that is created, constantly).

We know that You know our needs but we also see that You want us to express them to You. Help us be open to Your leading and give power to our prayers. What a great thought You express when You tell us that what we pray in private You will reward openly. And when You do answer our prayers, give us a sense of humility and gratitude. Our joy is in Your presence. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part 2, February 21

Prayer, Part 2, February 21

Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust.
O my soul, you have said to the LORD, "You are my Lord, my goodness is nothing apart from You."
As for the saints who are on the earth, "They are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight."
Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god
O LORD, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; you maintain my lot.
The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a good inheritance.

Psalms 16:1-6, www.solascriptura.com

Father, we know that our goodness, absent the presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts, is more than just inadequate. When our fleshly instincts take over, we know we are running away from Your presence. Your word tells us that You delight in your saints, a designation none of us feel able to accept, yet it remains Your expectation. What is a saint, Father, but one whose life reflects Jesus? Help us this day to be more consistent in our walk with You.

You, Father, are not a transitory, undependable, father made of flesh. You are our permanent Heavenly Father, thus we do have a good inheritance. We are, gratefully, Your children. Your love for us exceeds human boundaries. What a wonderful designation....Your child. Amen and Amen.

Prayer, February 13

Prayer, February 13

Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order; if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; my ears You have opened; burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.
Then I said, "Behold, I come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me.
I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart."

Psalms 40:5-8, www.solascriptura.com

Father, When we look at all You have created, we are overwhelmed with Your omniscience and omnipotence. You are indeed all knowing and all powerful. Here You tell us of Your omnipresence in our lives. Your thoughts towards us exceed number. You are a constant reality. We are truly never alone.

You do not desire sacrifice from us. Jesus has atoned for our sins, once and for all. Without our giving You anything, You have given us everything. We sometimes feel we want to "deserve your love" or "to do works to earn Your love". Forgive us for trying to add something that You do not require.

The names of Your children are written in the scroll of the book. We know that to be absent from that scroll we would have to have removed ourselves from Your extended hand of love. We pray that each of us not only reaches for You but that we look to the truth that You have written on our hearts as a source of strength and assurance that Your hope for us is eternal. In Jesus' Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, January 31

Prayer, Part I, January 31

...there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked
and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the
heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our
weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain
mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:13-16, [http://www.solascriptura.com/] www.solascriptura.com

Father, we stand before You all day, every day, completely exposed. We
have no secret thoughts or actions and You tell us here that we must give
an account for our decisions.

Sending Jesus to us, to be tempted as we are, and then raising Him up as
our eternal High Priest, gives us an advocate unlike any other. Our Jesus
knows what we are encountering and is there for us, all the time. We come
boldly to You Jesus, seeking Your love and guidance that the grace of God
may prevail in our lives. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, January 27

Prayer, January 27

LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill?
He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart;
You have tested my heart; you have visited me in the night; you have tried me and have found nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

Psalms 15:1-2, 17:3 www.solascriptura.com

Father, here we learn from David that works of righteousness matter. What we say and do is noticed by You. But, You have taught us elsewhere that Your grace, in calling us to Your side, and that Your mercy and our faith in Jesus, makes our works become a reflection of our faith. We know that without works our faith seems powerless and that works alone hardly distinguish us from being like any other good citizen.

Help us today to be free of self-imposed guilt. We know that You have lifted our guilt from us and that if we try to continue to bear it, we miss the point of Your sacrifice. You have taught us that it is Satan who is the "accuser". We also know it is You who stand as our advocate. We are no longer guilty! We, like David, have been tried and we stand before You, forgiven and cleansed.

Lead us as we seek to be obedient and righteous, empowered by You. Help us, especially, not to transgress with our mouth. You have taught us that an olive tree should not bear figs and vice versa. Let our words be consistent with our faith. May we glorify You and be an encouragement to others. In Your Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, January 17

Prayer, January 17

I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness in the great assembly; indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O LORD, You Yourself know.
I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great assembly.
Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O LORD; let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me.

Psalms 40:9-11, www.solascriptura.com

Father, we pray that it is true that each of us has proclaimed the good news of righteousness in our families and churches. Help us never to restrain our lips when the opportunity to share Your love with others arises. Help us to never hide Your righteousness in our heart, but to happily declare our faith.

We do pray for Your tender mercies in our daily walk. Since we never walk alone, help us to ask, constantly that Your direction, Your wisdom and discretion, be ours.

Father, it seems like we have a huge number of decisions to make every day. Teach us that it is Your desire that we place every decision before You, asking for guidance. We know that in the midst of this Satan has been given a license to try and discourage us. You not only permit the test but You provide us with a way out of trouble, if we will but look to You.

Bless us afresh, every moment, we pray. Guide us today; in Jesus' Holy name, amen.

Prayer, Part I, January 4, 2010

Prayer, Part I, January 4, 2010

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,
"as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.
"And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

John 17:1-3, www.solascriptura.com

Jesus, we acknowledge You as the Son of God, our personal Savior and our Advocate at the time of judgment. We have confidence that our love for You, by the grace given to us by God to be His chosen children, will result in our being with all believers in heaven, rejoicing forever.

Help us this day to be a witness of this extraordinary kind of love, a love that changes lives now and promises eternal life, forever. Oh how we pray that we can grasp the concept of eternity, that we might see how pivotal this short test really is. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, December 26

Prayer, Part I, December 26

We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Romans 8:28, Psalms 8:3-5

Father, many times we feel things are not working out right. You remind us that all things, not some, always work to the good for those that love you, to those that are called according to Your purpose. In the midst of trials we have a hard time believing things are working out for the good.

Help us, this day, to know You are aware of our every circumstance, always, and that You know the Alpha from the Omega. No event in our lives surprises You. If we can but draw near to You, always, we can be assured that things will work out for the good. We move forward in faith, even when we feel lonely. It is never You who have moved away, it is us.

Father, we are reminded by the Psalmist that You who created all things are mindful of us and visit us, individually. We are undeserving, but grateful for Your love. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Christmas devotion, December 25

Christmas devotion, December 25

...there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
"And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

Luke 2:11-14, www.solascriptura.com

Father, we celebrate the birth of Jesus as a nation and in many parts of the world. We pray that the physical birth of Christ will lead to the Spiritual birth of our loved ones and a renewed vow by each of us to seek a relationship with You more and more, each day.

As we approach a new year, we pray for higher levels of commitment and more of Your wisdom. We acknowledge You as our personal Savior, Jesus, and we praise Your Holy name among all persons. We pray for peace in our strife filled world. We pray for Your comfort and joy in our hearts and family this entire season.

Father, Your Holy word teaches us that life can only be eternal if we acknowledge Your Son, Jesus, as Lord of our life. We pray that the names of every person we know remain written in the Book of Life. We praise Your Holy name, this day, amen.

Prayer part I, December 10

Prayer part I, December 10

Oh, that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes!
Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments.
I will praise You with uprightness of heart, when I learn Your righteous judgments.
I will keep Your statutes; Oh, do not forsake me utterly!
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You!
Blessed are You, O LORD! Teach me Your statutes!
With my lips I have declared all the judgments of Your mouth.
I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways.
I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.
Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word.
Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.

Ps 119:5-18, www.solascriptura.com

Father, Our hearts rejoice when we know we are doing Your will and being perfectly obedient. On the other hand, when we disobey and turn from Your word and counsel we feel a burden that can only be relieved by confession and repentance. There is no teaching as rich and fruitful as Your word.

Bring us to the wisdom of the Holy Scriptures daily and bless each of us and our loved ones this day. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer Part I, November 26

Prayer Part I, November 26

"I pray, LORD God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments
I have declared my ways, and You answered me; teach me Your statutes.
Make me understand the way of Your precepts; so shall I meditate on Your wondrous works.
My soul melts from heaviness; strengthen me according to Your word.
Remove from me the way of lying, and grant me Your law graciously.
I have chosen the way of truth; your judgments I have laid before me.
I cling to Your testimonies; O LORD, do not put me to shame!
I will run the course of Your commandments, for You shall enlarge my heart.
Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end.
Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it.

Nehemiah 1:5, Ps 119:26-35

Father, prayer is our lifeline with You. Help us this day to stay connected in the midst of joy or strife. Your word is a light unto our path. You have taught us Your statutes, they are engraved upon our hearts.

When it seems that our soul is melting with heaviness we can become very discouraged and depressed. Help us know that the difficulties of life are so very brief, though very real, and that we are able to overcome these ill feelings in Your strength, not ours.

Father, when the burdens are most heavy, we lean not upon our own understanding. We know you see both the beginning and end. We trust You when You tell us that "all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose". Enlighten us and Guide us this day. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, November 14

Prayer, Part I, November 14

Behold, I long for Your precepts; revive me in Your righteousness.
Let Your mercies come also to me, O LORD—your salvation according to Your word.
So shall I have an answer for him who reproaches me, for I trust in Your word.

Ps 119:40-42, www.solascriptura.com

Father, as we seek to be like Jesus, we find we must know more and more of His words, His instruction and His desire for us. We seek His righteousness that our spirit might be revived by His Spirit. You have taught us that hearts need to be changed for renewal to be real. Lead us away from our instinctive, self serving desires, into a concern for serving You and others.

Then, as we interact today and people see that we love You Jesus, give us answers for those who observe us knowing that we will not always be admired for our faith. Our objective today Father is to seek and to do Your Holy will, in all things.

We pray that You will strengthen those who serve You and place Your hand against Your enemies, those who would harm and destroy all that is good.

Give us a gentle spirit in the midst of chaos, we pray. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, October 3

Prayer, Part I, October 3

In You, O LORD, I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in Your righteousness.
Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily; be my rock of refuge, a fortress of defense to save me.
For You are my rock and my fortress; therefore, for Your name's sake, lead me and guide me.

Ps 31:1-3, www.solascriptura.com

Lord and Father, it is not a small thing to say that we put our trust in You. We do not know what the next moment will bring but we know that You do. Help us never to be ashamed of our "dependence" on You. To whom other than You could we turn? We seek Your righteousness, in each of us, this day.

We know Father that we can not have it both ways, our worthiness, our wisdom, our independent achievements and at the same time Your righteousness. We confess that our lower nature doggedly pursues us. It is Your perfection in us that we seek.

Help us not only lean upon You but to be lifted by You to a heavenly nature here in this earthly place. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Psalms 40:5-10, www.solascriptura.com

Father, as we cry out to You, we sometimes feel there is no way that we are able to be heard. You have just told us that Your thoughts toward us are more than can be numbered. Father, we are heard and You are miraculously present. Give us comfort and assurance of Your concern for our needs.

We know, from Your word, that the law is written upon our hearts. What a magnificent gift, the truth within us. You do not require sacrifice of us. You require a humble and contrite heart that seeks to serve You.

Help us, this day, to declare our love for You among men and to seek ways to show people that we indeed love You and acknowledge You. Father, this prayer could simply be idle words or it could be a heartfelt commitment to seek to be like You, Jesus. That is our goal Jesus, to model our lives after You, to be taught by You and to experience Your perfection in times of trouble or of joy. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, August 25, 2008

Prayer, Part I, August 25, 2008

Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion who seek to destroy my life; let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor who wish me evil.
Let them be confounded because of their shame, who say to me, "Aha, aha!"
Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; let such as love Your salvation say continually, "The LORD be magnified!"
But I am poor and needy; yet the LORD thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God.

Psalms 40:14-17, www.solascriptura.com

Father, At times we feel embattled, pressured by our daily circumstances and needs. We have learned to flee from sinful reactions to pressure because You are pleased to deliver us, to lift us up in that moment, if we but turn to You. We know that our willingness to be in a relationship with You transports us from helplessness to dependence on You. Our peace and our comfort come from You as we look up and contemplate Your presence.

Father, help us not to be as a foxhole Christian, one that only seeks You when we are being attacked. Instead, enwrap us afresh with the presence, comfort and power of the Holy Spirit. Absent a relationship with You we are spiritually bankrupt, the worst possible way to exist. Give us an eternal perspective and keep us from feelings of despair. Our hope is in You. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, August 14

Prayer, August 14

He shall judge the world in righteousness, and He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.
The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.
Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion! Declare His deeds among the people.
... he does not forget the cry of the humble.

Psalms 9:8-12

Father, the one thing we can depend upon is Your righteous judgment. You will judge the world fairly and You have taught us the basis of Your judgment. How can we know what You expect? You teach us every day to look to Your word for guidance and wisdom. Everything seems transitional as we observe the changing values of the world. Thank You, Father, for being our rock, our never changing anchor.

O'God, we trust You and we turn to You. We not deserve Your grace and mercy; You simply offer it to us, in spite of ourselves. We sing praises to Your name, in our heart, all day and when we forget to do so, remind us of Your presence in all things and in all our experiences.

You do not forget the cry of the humble. We see that this is a promise and a warning. Keep us from pride and a sense of self-sufficiency. We pray in Jesus' name, amen.

Prayer, Part I, August 4

Prayer, Part I, August 4

Hear me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good; turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.

HEAR my cry, O God; attend to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalms 69:16, 61:1-2 www.solascriptura.com

Father, when we pray to You, we have assurance that You hear. Teach us to seek Your will this day, in all that we do; to include You in our decisions and to have our countenance be as Yours, Jesus.

You are the Rock, our Redeemer and You lift us to a higher place. Father, we await Your intervention, that moment when we will stand in Your Holy presence. Help us know that the time You give us here amounts to an asset that we must invest wisely, seeking to bring glory and honor to Your name.

Hear our prayers O'God and strengthen our resolve to serve You. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I

Prayer, Part I, July 15

Surely men of low degree are a vapor, men of high degree are a lie; if they are weighed on the scales, they are altogether lighter than vapor.
Do not trust in oppression, nor vainly hope in robbery; if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: that power belongs to God.
Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; for You render to each one according to his work.

Psalms 62:9-12, www.solascriptura.com

Father, You have taught us that these physical bodies will age, die and decay and that they are as a vapor that disappears. That would be a pitiful site to behold if this life was all there was. Praise You Father for creating us in Your image. There were other choices but You have chosen to offer us redemption and new bodies, neither young nor old, in a joyous New Jerusalem where our spirits are united with Your Spirit, for eternity.

We do seek riches, comfort and security in this life but it is clear enough Father that if we gather these things to ourselves for ourselves that we have missed Your will. Help us to be as a heavenly conduit, transmitting Your love to others. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, July 2

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Psalms 8:3-5 www.solascriptura.com

Father, as we look upon the beauty of Your creation, we are overwhelmed at the breadth and depth of the universe and both humbled and overjoyed as we see our children, created in Your image, born. The purity of a child is a representation of Your perfect will for us. Give us the faith and purity of a child as we seek to be as You Jesus.

Your creation, given to us as a gift, is a testimony of Your omniscience. As we contemplate our place in the universe, we have a hard time understanding how You can know and love each of us. We often underestimate how complete Your understanding is.

You tell us that our lives count, that You notice our trials and triumphs. You have crowned Your children with glory and honor. Help us as parents to be as hopeful for our children as You are for us. Bless each of us and all of our loved ones this day, we pray. We pray in Jesus' name, amen.

Prayer, June 30

Prayer, June 30

How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You!
Blessed are You, O LORD! Teach me Your statutes!

Psalms 119:9-12 www.solascriptura.com

Father, You pose the question and then provide the answer; we can cleanse our way by obeying Your word. We pray, that this day, our way is Your way, that our thoughts are as Your thoughts.

Most of us have not sought You with our whole heart because that would mean a level of pursuit to which we aspire and but have rarely achieved. We are told to "hunger and thirst for righteousness", something we want to do. What holds us back from a total committment to You?

Help us to hide Your word in our hearts. Why; because it will help us not sin against You. Teach us Your statutes, afresh. We pray in Jesus' name, amen.

Prayer, Part I, June 21

Prayer, Part I, June 21

O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.
So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory.
Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You.
Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.
My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.
When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.
Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.
My soul follows close behind You; your right hand upholds me.

Psalms 63:1-8, www.solascriptura.com

Father, from dawn to the moment we go to sleep, and even as we awaken in the middle of the night, we want to be as King David was, the one of whom You said, "He is a man after my own heart", seeking You. Help us not to exclude You from the activities of the day nor to do, say or think things that embarrass us before You as we look back.

Help us O'God to have a continual thirst for Your word in our hearts and minds, knowing that Your supply, though infinite, needs to be refreshed continually. Odd, but true, that we can be spiritually aware one moment and embroiled in sin the next. We know that Satan seeks to bring us down. Keep us in Your Holy hands that we might continually lift our hands in praise to You. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, June 10

Prayer, June 10

Oh, that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes!
Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments.
I will praise You with uprightness of heart, when I learn Your righteous judgments.
I will keep Your statutes; Oh, do not forsake me utterly!

Ps 119:5-8 www.solascriptura.com

Father, we seek to be obedient, to know Your will and to do it, this day. Strengthen us and teach us to look to You every moment of the day whether we are encountering stress or joy. We know You draw near to us as we draw near to You and that if we choose to walk away from You, we do so at our own peril.

You tell us that being ashamed stems from disobedience. Thank You for giving us a conscience that is active and alive: The Word in us, sharper than a two edged sword, both correcting us and saving us, all at the same time.

Father, we greatly prefer to praise You and acknowledge You before men than to try to "go it alone", as though our sufficiency was from our strength. Give us the resolve, we pray, to seek Your will in all things. In Jesus' name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, June 1

Prayer, Part I, June 1

Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul.
I cried to Him with my mouth, and He was extolled with my tongue.
If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear.
But certainly God has heard me; he has attended to the voice of my prayer.
Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor His mercy from me!

Psalms 66:16-20 www.solascriptura.com

Father, the way that David states this Psalm makes it seem like only those who fear You can be heard by You. Is this true? Father, we do fear You but not in the way people usually define fear.

We know that when You created the earth, flooded the earth, shook the earth and parted the seas for Your people that Your power is beyond our understanding and that when we enter into Your presence we are approaching the only One who is Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent, words that we can define but not truly grasp. Our fear will be as awesome reverence. Those who do not serve You, will, on the other hand be truly fearful.

What a wonderful truth - that Your mercy endures forever - for those that trust You. You extend Your loving hand, even when we were and are in sin. Father, we want to be more like Jesus and for sin to move farther and farther from us. Sanctify us this day and every person we know. We will testify of Your love this day. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, May 22

Prayer, May 22

With my lips I have declared all the judgments of Your mouth.
I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways.
I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.
Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word.
Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.

Psalms 119:13-18, www.solascriptura.com

Father, we pray that the words of the Psalmist are our words as well. We pray that we have declared you and rejoiced as we serve You, knowing that Your hope for us is to share in the eternal riches of heaven.

We want to meditate on Your teachings and to contemplate Your ways. We know that Your statutes are pure and that in keeping them there is great reward. Father, we are sometimes focused on the benefits of serving You but help us to never forget that we serve you with a humble and contrite heart, not focused only on the future reward, but on the peace it brings to us right now.

You have dealt bountifully with us in so many ways. Yet, You tell us to bring all of our hopes and aspirations to You as well as the basic needs of those we love. You bless us in good times and bad but it is the latter in which we humbly seek your help. Teach us to bring every single circumstance of our lives to You, asking for Your Holy hand upon us. We pray in Jesus' Holy name, amen.

Prayer, April 30

Prayer, April 30

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

James 5:13-16 www.solascriptura.com

Father, James, the half-brother of Jesus, seems to be one of the more direct persons in proclaiming Your will for us. He speaks clearly and bluntly and always with a sense of urgency concerning our salvation. May we listen intently to the words You gave him.

Here we are reminded of the power of prayer. Father, we sometimes keep our needs, both spiritual and physical, to ourselves. We know that is not recommended although personal and private time with You is still very important.

When we share our concerns and needs with each other You tell us that is good. How Father can we be blessed if we do not ask? Help us, today, to ask for Your intervention and help us to ask our family and friends for prayer, especially when there is a specific need. In asking, we declare our hope in You.

We pray that we will be alert to the needs of others, intervening with sincerity and optimism, believing in the power of Your grace and mercy to us all. Heal the sick and broken-hearted and rejoice with those that rejoice, praising You for Your loving care. We pray in Jesus' Holy name, amen.

Prayer, Part I, April 18

Prayer, Part I, April 18

Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications! In Your faithfulness answer me, and in Your righteousness.
Do not enter into judgment with Your servant, for in Your sight no one living is righteous.
For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground; he has made me dwell in darkness, like those who have long been dead.
Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is distressed.
I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands.
I spread out my hands to You; my soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah
Answer me speedily, O LORD; my spirit fails! Do not hide Your face from me, lest I be like those who go down into the pit.

Psalms 143:1-7, www.solascriptura.com

Father, we know that Kind David and others suffered as they sought to fulfill Your expectations. We seldom suffer as we seek to do Your will. Perhaps we are less overt in our efforts and we are spared suffering because we do not engage in the battle. Help us this day to run the risk of being persecuted as a result of our declared love for You.

We do not seek persecution Father, but if it comes as a result of our efforts to serve You, so be it. Strengthen our resolve to be Your person in the midst of a sinful world and allow Your enemies to become as was always intended, Your children.

Give us love and wisdom in our witness. We pray in Jesus' name, amen.

Prayer, April 7

Prayer, April 7

I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry.
He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.
He has put a new song in my mouth-- praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the LORD.
Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Psalms 40:1-4, www.solascriptura.com

Father, sometimes we feel that nothing is going right. This Psalm tells us that when we patiently wait upon You, in the midst of struggles, you do incline Your ear to us; You do hear our cry.

You take us from the feeling of being alone and lost to being lifted up, comforted and encouraged. You put a new song in our heart when we turn to You. Nothing in this world can comfort us as You can and no one understands our needs as You do. Lead us to that quiet zone of Your presence when we feel impotent.

Your word says blessed is the man who trusts You and does not look to other persons here for the kind of leadership and comfort that only You can give. Help us today to seek You in all things, at all times. In Jesus' Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, March 26

Prayer, Part I, March 26

Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for in You do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.
Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies; in You I take shelter.
Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.
Revive me, O LORD, for Your name's sake! For Your righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble.
In Your mercy cut off my enemies, and destroy all those who afflict my soul; for I am Your servant

Psalms 143:8-12, www.solascriptura.com

Father, if King David, a man after Your own heart, said, "teach me, lead me, revive me", we surely want to look to his example and do the same. Our lives are so full of decision-making opportunities from very minor things to life-changing things, that we confess we need Your direction, Your counsel.

We are knocked about by evil influence and angry people. Our souls are troubled and our faith is tested by the circumstances of our lives. Help us O'God to know that You are present, every moment and give us peace as we go about Your business this day. We say "Your business" because our lives ultimately have no enduring meaning if we do not seek to do Your will.

Show us today what we can do to draw nearer to You and surely You will draw nearer to us. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Help us to be open to Your leading and give power to our prayers. What a great thought You express when You tell us that what we pray in private You will reward openly. And when You do answer our prayers, give us a sense of humility and gratitude. Our joy is in Your presence. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, January 31, 2009

...there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked
and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Prayer, January 27, 2009

Prayer, January 27, 2009

LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill?
He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart;

We, like David, have been tried and we stand before You, cleansed.

Prayer, January 17, 2009

Prayer, January 17, 2009

Prayer, Part I, January 4, 2009

Prayer, Part I, January 4, 2009

Prayer, Part I, December 26, 2008

Prayer, Part I, December 26, 2008

Help us this day to know You are aware of our every circumstance, always, and that You know the Alpha from the Omega. No event in our lives surprises You. If we can but draw near to You, always, we can be assured that things will work out for the good.

Father, we are reminded by the Psalmist that You who created all things are mindful of us and visit us, individually. We are undeserving, but grateful for Your love. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer part I, December 10, 2008

Prayer part I, December 10, 2008

Amen.

Prayer Part I, November 26, 2008

Prayer Part I, November 26, 2008

Help us to know that the difficulties of life are so very brief, though very real, and that we are able to overcome these ill feelings in Your strength, not ours.

Father, when the burdens are most heavy, we lean not upon our own understanding. We know you see both the beginning and end. We trust You when You tell us that "all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose". Guide us this day. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, November 14, 2008

Prayer, Part I, November 14, 2008

Prayer, Part I, October 29, 2008

Prayer, Part I, October 29, 2008

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

James 5:13-16

Father, Your word teaches that when we suffer, or when we pray, or when we are cheerful and singing unto You, or when we are sick, we should turn to believers, to our pastors that they might pray over us and for us, laying on hands of assurance and compassion.

You then teach us that the prayers of believers have power, that there is a miraculous strength in one believer praying for the needs of another person. Father, lead us, today, to trust in the power of prayer. It is Your stated desire that we bring our concerns and needs to You and that You want to bless us for doing so. What a wonderful truth when You say, "the prayers of a righteous man availeth much". Help us to be a prayerful, righteous person, seeking to serve You and intervening for the needs of others.

We know Jesus that our perspective regarding eternal matters is limited and that You see the picture in its completed entirety. Help us not to feel disappointed when our prayers are not answered in what we feel is the right way. We trust that You know each of us and our circumstances. We pray that Your will, not ours, with our limited view, be done. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, October 3, 2008

Prayer, Part I, October 3, 2008
In You, O LORD, I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in Your righteousness.
Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily; be my rock of refuge, a fortress of defense to save me.
For You are my rock and my fortress; therefore, for Your name's sake, lead me and guide me.

Ps 31:1-3, www.solascriptura.com

Lord and Father, it is not a small thing to say that we put our trust in You. We do not know what the next moment will bring but we know that You do. Help us to never be ashamed of our "dependence" on You. To whom other than You could be we turn? We seek Your righteousness, in each of us, this day.

We know Father that we can not have it both ways, our worthiness, our wisdom, our independent achievements and at the same time Your righteousness. We confess that our lower nature doggedly pursues us. It is Your perfection in us that we seek.

Help us not only to lean upon You but to be lifted by You to a heavenly nature here in this earthly place. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, September 12, 2008

Prayer, Part I, September 12, 2008

I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry.
He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.
He has put a new song in my mouth—praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the LORD.
Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Psalms 40:1-10, www.solascriptura.com

Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O LORD; let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me.
For innumerable evils have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of my head; therefore my heart fails me.
Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me; O LORD, make haste to help me!

Psalms 40:11-17

Prayer, August 14, 2008

Prayer, August 14, 2008

We see that this is promise and a warning. Keep us from pride and a sense of self-sufficiency. We pray in Jesus' name, amen.

Prayer, Part I, August 4, 2008

Help us to know that the time You give us here amounts to an asset that we must invest wisely, seeking to bring glory and honor to Your name.

Hear our prayers O'God and strengthen our resolve to serve You. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, June 21, 2008

I will keep Your statutes; Oh, do not forsake me utterly!

Prayer, Part I, June 1, 2008

We know that when You created the earth, flooded the earth, shook the earth and parted the seas for Your people that Your power is beyond our understanding and that when we enter into Your presence we are approaching Omnipotence, Omniscience and Omnipresence, words that we can define but not truly grasp. Our fear will be as awesome reverence. Those who do not serve You, will, on the other hand be truly fearful.

What a wonderful truth that Your mercy endures forever for those that trust You and that You extend Your loving hand toward us, even when we were and are in sin. Father, we want to be more like Jesus and for sin to move farther and farther from us. Sanctify us this day and every person we know. We will testify of Your love this day. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, May 22, 2008

Father, we are sometimes focused on the benefits of serving You but help us to never forget that we serve you with a humble and contrite heart, not focused on the future reward, but on the peace it brings to us right now.

You have dealt bountifully with us in so many ways. Yet, You tell us to bring all of our hopes and aspirations to You as well as the basic needs of those we love. You bless us in good times and bad but it is the latter in which we need help. Teach us to bring every single circumstance of our lives to You, asking for Your Holy hand upon us. We pray in Jesus' Holy name, amen.

Prayer, May 11, 2008

God be merciful to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us.
That Your way may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.
Let the people praise You, O God; let all the people praise You.

…pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Psalms 67:3, 1Thessalonians 5:17-18, www.solascriptura.com

Father, when You shine upon us You illuminate our hearts and You are a light unto our path. Help us never to go forward in darkness, without You, Your counsel, and Your love. Father, You give us light that Your word might go throughout all of the world. We praise You for equipping us to serve You.

We are asked to pray without ceasing. Teach us this day how to implement that teaching. Help us to include You in everything we do and think. It is Your will that we enjoy the fruits of Your Holy presence (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control), constantly. Our fleshly instincts take us in the opposite direction, too often. We seek to be like You, more and more. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.
