JOHN 3:1-21 HOLY SPIRIT PART 1
1 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the
Jews.
2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know
that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs
that You do unless God is with him."
3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old?
Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"
5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born
of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born
of the Spirit is spirit.
7 "Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'
8 "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it,
but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone
who is born of the Spirit."
9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?"
10 Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel,
and do not know these things?
11 "Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify
what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness.
12 "If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how
will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
13 "No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven,
that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.
14 "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so
must the Son of Man be lifted up,
15 "that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal
life.
16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting
life.
17 "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not
believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the
name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the
world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds
were evil.
20 "For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come
to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
21 "But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds
may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."
JOHN 16:1-14
1 "These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made
to stumble.
2 "They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming
that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.
3 "And these things they will do to you because they have not
known the Father nor Me.
4 "But these things I have told you, that when the time comes,
you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I did
not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.
5 "But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks
Me, 'Where are You going?'
6 "But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled
your heart.
7 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage
that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come
to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
8 "And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and
of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 "of sin, because they do not believe in Me;
10 "of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me
no more;
11 "of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear
them now.
13 "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide
you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority,
but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things
to come.
14 "He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare
it to you.
ACTS 1:4-11
4 ...He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait
for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard
from Me;
5 "for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized
with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."
6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying,
"Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"
7 And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons
which the Father has put in His own authority.
8 "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon
you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He
was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went
up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,
11 who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up
into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven,
will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."
ACTS 2:1-8, 11-39
1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with
one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing
mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and
one sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak
with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from
every nation under heaven.
6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and
were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.
7 Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another,
"Look, are not all these who speak Galileans?
8 "And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which
we were born?
11 ...We hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works
of God."
12 So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another,
"Whatever could this mean?"
13 Others mocking said, "They are full of new wine."
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and
said to them, "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let
this be known to you, and heed my words.
15 "For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only
the third hour of the day.
16 "But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 'And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that
I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your
daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your
old men shall dream dreams.
18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out
My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth
beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood,
before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.
21 And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of
the Lord shall be saved.'
22 "Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man
attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God
did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know--
23 "Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge
of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put
to death;
24 "whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because
it was not possible that He should be held by it.
25 "For David says concerning Him: 'I foresaw the Lord always
before my face, for He is at my right hand, that I may not be
shaken.
26 Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; moreover
my flesh also will rest in hope.
27 For You will not leave my soul in Hades, nor will You allow
Your Holy One to see corruption.
28 You have made known to me the ways of life; you will make me
full of joy in Your presence.'
29 "Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch
David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us
to this day.
30 "Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn
with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to
the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne,
31 "he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of
the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh
see corruption.
32 "This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.
33 "Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having
received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured
out this which you now see and hear.
34 "For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself:
'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand,
35 Till I make Your enemies Your footstool." '
36 "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that
God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said
to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what
shall we do?"
38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you
be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins;
and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 "For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all
who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call."
ROMANS 8:1-17
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ
Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to
the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me
free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through
the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful
flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled
in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to
the Spirit.
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on
the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit,
the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded
is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not
subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the
Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit
of Christ, he is not His.
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but
the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells
in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life
to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors-- not to the flesh, to
live according to the flesh.
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if
by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will
live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons
of God.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear,
but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba,
Father."
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are
children of God,
17 and if children, then heirs-- heirs of God and joint heirs
with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be
glorified together.
ROMANS 8:23-27
23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the
Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting
for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not
hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for
it with perseverance.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do
not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself
makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit
is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to
the will of God.
ROMANS 14:17
17 For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness
and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
1 CORINTHIANS 2:1-16
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence
of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus
Christ and Him crucified.
3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words
of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the
power of God.
6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not
the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are
coming to nothing.
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden
wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory,
8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known,
they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor
have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared
for those who love Him."
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the
Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of
the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God
except the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the
Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that
have been freely given to us by God.
13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom
teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual
things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit
of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them,
because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is
rightly judged by no one.
16 For "who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct
Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
HEBREWS 3:7-15
7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you will hear
His voice,
8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of
trial in the wilderness,
9 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works forty
years.
10 Therefore I was angry with that generation, and said, 'They
always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways.'
11 So I swore in My wrath, 'They shall not enter My rest.' "
12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart
of unbelief in departing from the living God;
13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today," lest
any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning
of our confidence steadfast to the end,
15 while it is said: "Today, if you will hear His voice, do not
harden your hearts as in the rebellion."
HEBREWS 6:4-6
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and
have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the
Holy Spirit,
5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age
to come,
6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since
they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him
to an open shame.
HEBREWS 10:16
16 "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those
days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and
in their minds I will write them,"
1 PETER 1:10-12
10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully,
who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ
who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the
sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us
they were ministering the things which now have been reported
to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the
Holy Spirit sent from heaven-- things which angels desire to look
into.
1 PETER 3:18
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust,
that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh
but made alive by the Spirit,
1 PETER 4:14
14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you,
for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
PSALM 51:11-12
11 (O' God) Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not
take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your
generous Spirit.
2 CORINTHIANS 13:14
14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and
the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
